'Bellinter House is redolent with Irish history. A glorious Anglo-Irish Palladian country house (built in 1750) within sight of the Hill of Tara, ancient seat of the Celtic High Kings of Ireland, it eventually fell into the hands of the Church and the Sistors of Sion. The building was bought in 2003 by entertainment entrepreneurs Jay Bourke and John Reynolds, co-owners of several hot Dublin bars, clubs and restaurants. The three-year, £11m renovation and redevelopment of the house was overseen by one of Ireland's hippest architects and designers, Pierce Tynan, who has created a feel of what he calls "threadbare elegance" bringing the whole 37-bedroom hotel to life with a subtle infusion of contemporary Irish style. Huge original fireplaces and antique mirrors, for instance, mesh with original designer furniture and quirky lighting in the atmospheric Drawing Room. The grandeur of great wooden staircases and beautifully embellished plasterwork is softened by personal touches such as lightbox wardrobes illuminated with Tynan's photographs of the grounds. The high luxury quota includes Villeroy & Boch baths and taps, goosedown pillows in Egyptian cotton on comfortable king-size beds, a well-stocked wine bar and stylish glass-walled indoor swimming pool and sauna, not to mention seven indulgent spa treatment rooms. In the atmospheric vaulted basement is the new Eden restaurant, where fresh modern Irish cuisine is available. The house has also acquired 3 miles of the River Boyne adjoining the property and have enlisted the services of three highly experienced Irish anglers acting as guides for visiting anglers, Dave Robinson, owner of the Rathbeggan Lakes fishing complex, Irish International flyfisherman, Phil McMahon and local river expert Martin Murray. The Boyne is a prolific brown trout and salmon river renowned for its superb mayfly hatch. The guides are all first class instructors and are keen to pass on their many years of experience, wether you’re a novice, improver or an experienced flyfisherman, a day with these guys will be money very well spent'.
